St. Francis’ Pastoral Centre – 326 Lonsdale St. Melbounre
My art photography tends to focus around photographing shadows and the compositional relationship in shapes of light and shade. My inspiration comes from finding beauty in domestic environments and their objects, otherwise considered mundane by others.
I search for the obscure and interesting in everyday scenes and through careful composition, create memorable images. My medium of choice has always been black & white film as I enjoy the challenge of tonal control in the darkroom process and the archival properties of a
negative in a somewhat disposable digital age.
The images of this exhibition have been taken on a variety of cameras ranging from 35mm to 8x10. After processing the film, I make 11x14 enlargements from every negative taken at the outing on 12x16 resin coated paper. I use these images as a contact sheet as prints this size allow me to study each negative taken to decide on the best composition. Each image is printed full frame with a black border to demonstrate proper cropping thought process at the time of capture.
The 12x16” resin coated paper is processed in an Ilford processor that allows you to make dry prints from a whole roll of film very quickly. Selection is then made from the large proof images to be later printed on fiber based paper by hand.
